RBC Product Development consistently produces outstanding results through strict adherence to a product design and development process. These steps are defined by process excellence and refined through years of experience.
Step 1: Project Characterization
As a critical first step, we focus on characterizing your product, your development project, and the deliverable transfer process accurately and completely so there are no surprises at the point when surprises become expensive—after the beginning of the project.
Step 2: Detailed Product Definition
Once a project assessment is complete and the project is approved, we work to gather a comprehensive list of requirements your product must meet to fulfill the needs of your Customers (as detailed in our Customer Requirements Document).
Step 3: Requirements Decomposition
Our development experts analyze the product requirements for your product, determine how the system should be architected, and how resources and requirements should be allocated to the various system functions to optimize your product according to product and project priorities.
Step 4: Product Design
The actual product design is where your product starts to take tangible shape. We continue the forward-looking process at this stage by not only completing typical product design due-diligence in the functional design phase, but by considering critical components of design for electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC), thermal considerations, manufacturability, and testability.
Step 5: Product Implementation
It is at the product implementation phase of the development process that we apply cutting edge tools and techniques to realize the detailed product designs.
Step 6: Product Testing
We plan and execute integration, verification, validation, and manufacturing testing at carefully planned times during the project to test your product.
Step 7: Manufacturing Validation
Manufacturing validation occurs at the manufacturing site as an audit of the manufacturing process, assembly instructions, and test procedures. Our team ensures that the processes are in place to meet regulatory standards and to ensure consistent, issue-free manufacturing runs.
Step 8: Production
Once the product is completely developed and smoothly transitioned into production, we stand at the ready to provide any needed production, root-cause analysis, and test support.
Step 9: Product Sustaining
We apply the same care in planning and executing sustaining projects after the products we develop are commercialized as we do for our new product development projects.
